    DINING
56 Degrees - One of the city's few Asian fusion restaurants, the Vietnamese-informed 56 Degrees features such delicacies as poached oysters in saffron sauce and seared duck. The lobby of the former bank, with its massive columns and vast concave ceiling, is split down the middle by a wall, with half of the space for the remaining tellers’ windows, and half for the restaurant. With hotel and business-district clientele in mind, it is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week.

    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: The hotel does nothing to hide from its business and leisure clientele the locale’s previous existence as a bank: The registration desk retains a decorous teller screen, there's an enormous vault (available for private entertaining) in the lobby, and hallways are lined with artistic prints that evoke the building's history as a center of commerce. There's even an active bank branch, complete with tellers, on the main floor.

Amenity highlights: The Whitney is home to one of the city's few Asian fusion restaurants, the celebrated 56 Degrees, which was founded by a Vietnam-born chef. There's a small fitness center with cardio and resistance equipment, and the lobby is set up for complimentary wireless Internet access.

Insider tip: The hotel is around the corner from one of the city's oldest oak-lined public squares, as well as from a well-preserved Greek Revival architectural marvel, the former city hall of New Orleans.
