    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Located just off Julia Street, in the city's chic Arts and Warehouse District, the Embassy Suites was built for the World's Fair, which was held in New Orleans in 1984. A recreation of Bourbon Street, complete with colorful mannequins of jazz musicians, fills the wall of the lobby. Off the registration area is a series of small, carpeted rooms with chairs and tables; the hotel's mood-lit lounge, Madeline's; and the expansive, seven-story lobby. Guestrooms were updated in the spring of 2003, so they're freshly painted and decorated.

Amenity highlights: The Embassy Suites has a 75-seat casual restaurant that specializes in New Orleans cuisine. On the ground floor amid potted plants is a narrow pool that is just long enough for laps, as well as a secluded hot tub. A 24-hour, mirror-walled fitness room is just off the lobby.

Insider tip: Julia Street is home to some of the city's best art galleries, as well as star chef Emeril Lagasse's namesake restaurant, which is only 1 block away.

The 16-floor hotel has a regionally themed restaurant and a bar and lounge area, as well as a pool and fitness center. There is also 11,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
